The following tips will help you publish great blog posts that attract clients and prospects in your niche market.
Have you heard of WIIFM? Its marketing terminology for 'What's In It For Me?' That is what you need to keep in mind all the time. Your reader will be reading the post trying to find what is in it for them.
Don’t waste other people’s valuable time. If you have nothing important to say, it is likely that other people do. You can share their articles, review a book or do an interview.
Just like you wouldn’t leave your house with a missing sock or dirty hair, why would you want to publish a post with mistakes? Publishing quality work is a sign of respect for your readers.
You may have many interesting things to say in your post. But you need to realize that people are reading online and most of them don’t have much time. Get to the point fast. Publishing short posts frequently is a better than publishing long posts every few weeks.
Even if you are not a natural writer, you can still write for your blog. Write like you are speaking to a friend, or even yourself. However, remember to get to the point fast. In addition, keep in mind the rule of 5 W’s in the opening paragraph; what, who, when, why and where.
This gives you credibility and draws attention to your expertise in the field. Since people don’t have the time to find out what others are up to, you need to tell them. Linking to other websites and blogs also helps create a network of associates who are likely to link to your blog in return.
This will keep you focused on your purpose, and your blog will gain a high ranking in the search engines. This is why it is vital to write down your purpose statement before starting your blog. Having a clear purpose will ensure consistent delivery of relevant messages. The more your keywords appear, the higher your search engine results.
Make sure your sentences are short, with only one idea per sentence. Avoid jargon on double speak. Don’t give your readers the work of figuring out what you mean. Spoon feed them. Make use of dashes and commas liberally.
It is okay to use everyday common expressions such as ‘Go Figure’, ‘Now, I ask you’, ‘Don’t get me started’, ‘Gotta love it’ etc. When choosing your expressions, keep in mind the general age of your readers.
Make it ostentatious and use keywords.
