The web has brought us many new businesses that are proactively working to provide ecommerce solutions to the public. Some of these ventures are taking the way businesses have been traditionally run, and are bringing exciting new business models to the table to benefit customers. Here are three new and exciting ecommerce start-ups that seek to innovate in online business.

1. Beautylish

Beautylish is a new ecommerce startup that provides advice and insight on beauty and makeup. It is full of content that provides valuable information on beauty, and the company also provides an ecommerce store platform where purchases can be made. Founded by three men, it has already raised millions of dollars in venture capital funds and Beautylish seeks to make a disruptive impact in the beauty space. Having launched a few years ago, it already boasts a viewership in the millions. The site is not only offering big name brands, but also items that can be found in the corner store. This diversity of choice provides customers with a multitude of customizable options for the purchase of beauty products.

2. Dollar Shave Club

For the guys, there is a new venture, Dollar Shave Club. The company is most notable for a viral video that gave the Los Angeles-based startup worldwide attention. The business operates on a simple model, based in a way on subscription models of the past, but with an infusion of customer service in mind. Customers subscribe to one of three choices of razors, which will be mailed to an address of their choice once a month. Then, the customer will never run out of razors or razor blades. The first month, you also receive a razor handle, with new blades arriving every month. Subscribers have one of three choices of razors, with the most basic one costing $1 a month before shipping, and the most elaborate one topping off at under $10 a month. Dollar Shave Club provides its customers with razors in a most convenient fashion.

3. Lot 18

Lot 18 is a new ecommerce startup hailing from New York City, and it is backed by multiple investors to the tune of tens of millions of dollars in funding. What does it provide? Lot 18 functions, in a way, as a Gilt Groupe-type site, but for food and wine. The question it asks on its home page when one first visits, “Have you ever entered into a wine store and not known what to buy?” explains it all. The site provides the best of the best in wine, food, and related experiences. The members-only site also provides ways for customers to become more engaged with the product. Using an enterprise ecommerce platform that provides the most engagement to customers, the site provides the finest products at the lowest prices. Lot 18 also employs experts and curators who find the best products for individual customers, and then pair up the customers with the right products. Lot 18 provides a new and engaging way to purchase fine wines and foods.

These three startups provide new ecommerce platforms in certain niches that provide the greatest benefit for the customer. They also strive to give the customer the greatest experience. It is because of this that these three startups are new and exciting for 2012.
