Since the last World Cup in 2006, social media has evolved and grown at a rapid rate and 2010's World Cup is set to dominate conversation across many social media channels and is likely to prove the biggest trending topic to date. Social media websites such as YouTube, Facebook and Twitter were in their infancy in 2006, when the last World Cup took place in Germany, but have since exploded in popularity. Will this prove to be the biggest indication, the power of social media influence can have? Undoubtedly, well, at least since the Barack Obama presidential campaign.
